Introduction to Keeping a Studio Journal
What’s the most powerful tool I’ve ever found for developing my creativity and pursuing my artistic goals?—my studio journal!
This free mini-course consists of the first three lessons of Your Studio Journal, plus all the information about supplies. Everything you need to get started designing your own studio journaling practice.
NOTE: These first three lessons of Your Studio Journal have always been free, and were always intended to serve as a mini-course introduction to studio journaling. But it was hard to discover that without looking closely at the course description, so I’ve separated them out into their own free mini-course.
This Course Includes
- a quick tour of different ways I use my studio journal to explore and develop my artistic goals, to spark ideas for how you might use a studio journal to support your creative practice
- questions to help you deepen your understanding of what you want from your art and art-making, and develop more focused artistic goals
- suggested activities to help you explore different ways to use your studio notebook besides just “making sketches”
- 3 short videos (15-25 minutes) where I share a few thoughts about the day’s thinking prompt, and then work alongside you on the day’s activity as we listen to some relaxing music. You can use the video as inspiration for your work . . . or just for some companionship.
What Will I Learn?
- you’ll get an introduction to the sort of activities you can do in a studio journal to discover and develop your personal creative themes and style
- you’ll begin to explore what you want from your art and your studio journal practice
- you’ll practing using your art-making to soothe your spirit and expand your imagination
Note: This isn’t a “how-to-sketch” course. If you’re primarily interested in my tips for sketching, please see the Sketching collection of articles and videos.
